Our passions define who we are. So Huawei and Dazed asked some of today’s most creative up-and-coming photographers to celebrate the communities that reveal their true selves using the Huawei P10; a dual lens camera phone built on the century-long legacy of Leica, the original street photography pioneers.

From a shortlist of twenty powerful entries, judges from Leica Galleries International and Arts Impact Fund selected just three overall winners. Each received £10,000 for their community, but only one walked away with a Living Gallery of their work: Anthony Shintai Amao, with his impressive celebration of Birmingham’s Break Mission.

A4 Poster - AEROBREAKS VERSIONHippodrome CREATIVE is working with Break Mission to help young people aged 14-25 increase their fitness and develop their break dance skills.

Funded by Sport England, our AeroBreaks project offers free, weekly break dance classes where young people can explore their interest in hip-hop culture by working with professional artists. The project also offers participants the opportunity to perform at our annual B-SIDE Hip-Hop Festival.

We’re really excited to be working with a range of schools, as well as Break Mission and The Lighthouse Young People’s Centre, to bring break dance classes to enthusiastic young people across Birmingham. The sessions will take place in four locations across the city: three schools* and The Lighthouse. The schools we’re working with are Holte School, Holy Trinity Catholic School, and Four Dwellings Academy, which is also a member of our brand-new Hippodrome Education Network. The fourth set of sessions is open to the public, taking place at The Lighthouse at 6-7.30pm on Thursdays during term time.

We hope to see some of our AeroBreaks participants performing at B-SIDE Hip-Hop Festival 2018, so watch this space!

Ben Chijioke aka Ty is one of UK Black music’s true innovators and popularisers. His debut recording was on one of I.G. Culture’s legendary One Drop Inter Outer albums. He has worked with the likes of Tony Allen, Terri Walker, Natasha Williams, Afro Reggae and Estelle and has featured on more albums and singles than could easily be listed. He has been invited to share the mic with luminaries such as Talib Kweli, De La Soul and Platinum Pied Pipers. He has been namechecked by Lily Allen and has performed with Damon Albarn. He has been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize, has won numerous Hip Hop Awards, has even presented awards at the Nigerian Music Awards in Lagos.
